About Bolt
Access control has been quietly awful for years.
Ask around and you hear the same thing: the hardware is ugly, the software feels like 2008, the server lives in a cupboard and the bill arrives with a line you didn’t expect. Bolt exists because someone had to fix that. Ask any installer: the hardware is ugly, the software feels like 2008, there’s a server to build in a cupboard, and when it falls over the phone rings for you. Bolt exists because someone had to fix that.
Four convictions. The rest follows from them.
What you can hold us to, in the building and on the bill. What you can hold us to, on the job and after the van leaves.
-
A door is not a cloud problem.
If the broadband goes down, nobody should be locked out of their own office. Controllers hold their own rules. The cloud is a convenience, not a dependency.
-
Your building is not an upsell opportunity.
Event history and offline operation aren’t premium extras. They’re how a door system should work, so they’re part of it.
-
Boring is a feature.
The best access system is the one you forget exists. We don’t aim for revolutionary. We aim for never-woke-you-up-at-2am.
-
Installers are the product.
The person who puts Bolt on your wall matters more than anyone who writes the code. We back them with margin, training and stock, then get out of their way.

A door is not a cloud problem.
Controllers hold their own rules, so a broadband outage doesn’t lock anyone out, and doesn’t turn into a call-out. The cloud is a convenience, not a dependency.

Right now, it’s one of us.
Bolt is founder-built: hardware, firmware, backend, front end, this website, and the person who answers the phone. No marketing department, no fourteen layers of approval, no quarterly re-org.
That will change as Bolt grows. For now, the person you email is the person writing the code.
